end of the year reflections for NASH Student Liaison program
The student meeting started with introductions of the liaisons and their classmates that attended the talk. a little background on each participant and asked about their favorite remedy and why. Each student told of a case or instance of using that remedy and all the little aspects they were able to observe while administering that remedy. Dosage and repetition questions were brought up from the students to better understand how it worked in each case. A lot of cross communication took place and the students really got to know each other. We covered many of the topics that Carleen and yourself had outlined which brought about many good responses pertaining to NASH’s role in supporting member schools. We covered a little on the Insurance for Homeopaths, and directed them to the NASH website for a valuable resource of information on many levels. We covered the student membership fee and the benefits of membership as well as ideas to bring in new members to NASH. The students brought up points about the list of schools and available mentorship as well as the many resources in the NASH website especially the lending library and audio recordings. When asked what topics they would like to discuss or speakers they wanted to hear about, they responded with wanting to hear more about Programs like “Homeopaths without Borders”, Cease therapy and the like. The speakers they were curious to hear about were; Maria Bohle from British institute of Homeopathy, Rachel Becker and Allister Gray from CHE OF NYC, Sujata Owens and her experience of training in India, a representative from one of the Homeopathic Pharmacy’s and Lastly hearing from Shilpa Bhouraskar from Homeoquest software. All enjoyed the talk and said they would work to get more students of their schools participating. Last note, One of the new students also said the support NASH has shown has inspired her to be the best homeopath she can be, because with this much support how can she fail. Thank you!
Well that was about it, we did run over just a bit though.

Editing is a very time consuming process — imagine a massive jigsaw puzzle! Everyday we work to craft the many hours of footage into the best story possible.

NASH has Applicant Status
The Board made a decision in the beginning of 2015 to become more involved with the international homeopathic community by making application to the International Council for Homeopathy (ICH) as a voting member. During the first year we will be considered in ‘Applicant Status’.
While NASH is listed as being an Applicant for ICH membership , we will receive all normal documentation and will be expected to have a nominated representative participate in at least one Council meeting. Kate Birch, CCH, RSHom(NA) has graciously offered to be our representative on ICH and continues to keep us informed of its activities including this recent newsletter. Of particular interest are the following articles:

- Switzerland sets an example for the rest of Europe in regulating Complementary Medical (CM) practice. Homeopaths practicing in Switzerland are now required to sit and pass the higher professional examination after which they can use the official title ‘naturopath with national diploma specialized in homeopathy’. Dear Colleagues – the message below is a direct relay of a message from the President of the Australian Homeopathic Association Martin Costigan to AHA members in response to the negative report from the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council(NHMRC) earlier this year. The NHMRC’s report has been quoted around the world to mis-represent the evidence base for homeopathy. As you will read, our colleagues in Australia have been doing great work to challenge and overturn this biased report.

| NHMRC Review: Together We Will Make a Difference ! |
| Dear Members and Supporters,
As you are all no doubt aware, the homoeopathic profession is in the aftermath of the release of the findings of the National Health and Medical Research Council’s (NHMRC) ‘Homeopathy Review’, released on 11 March 2015. NHMRC concluded, “Based on the assessment of the evidence of effectiveness of homeopathy, NHMRC concludes that there are no health conditions for which there is reliable evidence that homeopathy is effective.”
The NHMRC’s finding is damaging to the profession and is having repercussions both in Australia and internationally. It is, in fact, a defining moment in Australian homoeopathy, with much at stake. Within the homoeopathic community, the NHMRC review has elicited feelings of shock, anger, disempowerment and fear around what it means for the future of homoeopathy in Australia.
AHA members and supporters have probably been wondering what action the AHA is taking to counter the NHMRC report and whether anything is happening at all. Previous AHA Bulletins have alluded to action AHA has been undertaking, without giving specific details. Until now the AHA has been circumspect with regards to publicising its actions so as to not jeopardise the viability of its campaign.
AHA, in collaboration with Complementary Medicines Australia (CMA), has been engaged in an active, formal process of making NHMRC accountable for its flawed ‘Review’, which was underpinned by unacceptable bias and conflict of interest. The CMA/ AHA investigation has revealed a number of critical (previously unknown) procedural and methodological irregularities that invalidate the ‘Review’s’ findings. Some of these are of a very disturbing nature, for example the undisclosed fact that a Friends of Science in Medicine (FSM) member was appointed as the initial chair of the ‘Homeopathy Working Committee’ in 2012, concomitant to the NHMRC CEO being personally warned of FSM’s lobbying of NHMRC reviewers to its anti-CM agenda.
Such factors, amongst many others, bode well for having the ‘Review’ and its findings permanently set aside, which is AHA/ CMA’s goal.
After a lead-up investigation period, in August 2015 CMA provided NHMRC with a dossier outlining critical methodological flaws, procedural irregularities, bias and conflicts of interest associated with the ‘Review’. This successfully brought NHRMC to the negotiating table on 17 September 2015, under threat of further follow up action underpinned by legal support. At the meeting, attended by representatives from the AHA, CMA and their legal representation, NHMRC agreed to undertake a formal internal review of its processes and consider a detailed (61-page) submission prepared by CMA/ AHA detailing these irregularities. NHMRC is currently undertaking this internal review.
AHA appreciates members’ and supporters’ patience in this matter. Now that a formal complaints process has been initiated via NHMRC, AHA is more able to keep everyone informed of progress with this situation as it develops.
AHA wishes to express its sincere gratitude to CMA for being a committed and loyal ally in this process, including financially. Thanks should also go to various bodies in the CM sector who have also financially supported this process to date. It’s now time that we as homoeopaths contribute to this process.
To this end National Council has set up a Sponsorship Programme to financially support our legal costs in the ongoing process outlined above. Any contribution you can make to this fund will directly support these ongoing activities and will make a real difference. This also provides an opportunity for AHA members and the profession as a whole to have some ownership over the process of making the NHMRC accountable for its ‘Review’ and the associated ‘Position Statement on Homeopathy’.
The Sponsorship Programme will operate as follows:

But now we need you to tell the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) about your experiences. The FTC is evaluating the advertising of OTC homeopathic products – separate from the FDA evaluation of homeopathic manufacturing/labeling guidelines.
It is critically important for all homeopathic consumers, practitioners, researchers, and educators to make comments to the Federal Trade Commission – even if you already commented to the FDA. The FDA WILL NOT be sharing comments already submitted to them with the FTC.
